1. Does the eye-tracking equipment interfere with the user?
No. All of our eye-trackers
are non-invasive and do not interfere with the user’s point of gaze. The user is
free to move his head, to blink, to talk, etc. The system in no way limits typical
interaction with a computer screen.
2. I wear glasses. Will that interfere with the eye-tracking?
No. Our system is compatible with most eyeglasses and contact
lenses.
3. Does testing have to take place in San Diego?
No. The equipment is portable - we can test virtually anywhere in the world. Testing
at the San Diego facility is generally more cost-effective as there are no facility
charges or travel costs. The eye-tracking sessions themselves can be streamed live
to any desktop. Yet sometimes the target population is not available in San Diego,
in which case we can travel to the target.
4. On what type of systems can testing take place?
Any system. The testing equipment is self-contained and does not need to be connected
to the operating system being tested. It only needs to connect to the screen presenting
the test material.
5. Is the eye-tracking accurate?
Yes. The eye-tracking system is extremely accurate with an average gaze position
error <0.5. This accuracy is maintained even with head movement and talking.
6. Is it expensive?
Our testing methods are flexible. Cost of testing is determined by what is being
tested, time to test, number of participants, and location.
7. Do clients need to be on location during testing?
No. With many studies, we never meet the client in person. Study objectives and
design are coordinated via phone and e-mail. We can stream the pilot sessions to
the client to ensure the objectives are being met. The testing sessions are also
streamed live. The client can comment on the testing at any time by phone or Instant
Messaging.
8. How long for turnaround of results?
Videos of the eye-tracking session are sent out by FedEx the day following the final
day of testing. Depending on the analysis package, the analyses are available by
ftp site 1 to 8 working days later. Top-line results for more comprehensive testing
can be available before the full report is complete.
9. How many people are tested at a time?
Unlike focus groups, eye-tracking research is one-on-one. One individual is tested
at a time, typically for one hour. EyeTracking, Inc. has a fleet of eye-tracker systems and depending
on availability, several eye-tracking sessions can go on simultaneously.
